The blonde girl’s family has more money; therefore, can afford to pay their way to more publicity time, bestowing more value on her life. It is not something that you think of everyday, or is easily realized, but our society holds value on our life only through the materialistic things. For instance, after the September 11 terrorist attacks in 2001, thousands of innocent lives were lost as a result. Due to the fact that there were so many families to compensate and to prevent the airlines from going out of business, the federal government enforced a limit on how much each family would receive in compensation. These numbers were given in an article called â€Å"What Is a Life Worth? † in  Time magazine  written by Amanda Ripley. â€Å"First, the government will estimate how much a victim would have earned over his or her lifetime had the planes never crashed. To my surprise, Jacob snorted. â€Å"Don't say that to him.† â€Å"What do you mean?† â€Å"Quil's not looking for pity. Just the opposite – he's jazzed. Totally thrilled.† This made no sense to me. All the other wolves had been so depressed at the idea of their friend sharing their fate. â€Å"Huh?† Jacob tilted his head back to look at me. He smiled and rolled his eyes. â€Å"Quil thinks it's the coolest thing that's ever happened to him. Part of it is finally knowing what's going on. And he's excited to have his friends back – to be part of the ‘in crowd.'† Jacob snorted again. â€Å"Shouldn't be surprised, I guess. It's so Quil.† â€Å"He likes it?† â€Å"Honestly . . . most of them do,† Jacob admitted slowly. â€Å"There are definitely good sides to this – the speed, the freedom, the strength . . . the sense of – of family. . . . He smiled and leaned back, undeceived by my attempt at nonchalance. â€Å"So Mr. Ateara went straight to the other elders,† Jacob went on. â€Å"They were the only ones left who still knew, who remembered. Mr. Ateara, Billy, and Harry had actually seen their grandfathers make the change. I say almost with the deepest conviction as it is only almost that you have completed that â€Å"American Dream† that everyone longs for because you have yet to find the perfect mate. But do you really want that? Maybe you don’t. It seems as though there is an increasing contradiction in American society that almost pleads with people to create this faà §ade of an American dream with both the perfect mate, spouse, or lover and the need to be your own individual. But can you have both? Is it possible to be with someone and yet still be your own person? Can you be committed to someone and still be yourself? Or can you truly be yourself if you’re committed to someone? But what remains to be the spin, is that you don’t really â€Å"fit in† either way. If you’re single, you should be with someone. From that time on, the land of Mexico was governed by the Spanish Empire. And this settlement was marked to be full of enjoyable and amazing discoveries. Mexico became one of the most ample, wealthy and prosperous regions among the colonized territories of America.The Spanish conquest moved further to the lands of the present day Peru. Many years of fight and fierce struggle have passed before the conquistadors extended control over one of the greatest Andes land now known as Peru. The victory over the region was marked to be the year of 1542, although the battle between the Spanish and Inca Empires began much earlier. In fact, it took decades of violent fighting for Spanish leaders to subdue the most powerful and mightiest empire in America. However, the rule over the Inca civilization was finally gained and this was the beginning of a long-lasting period of Peru colonization.
